22 Safe After Bulk Carrier Catches Fire

On November 10, a bulk carrier caught fire at Bontang near Kalimantan and 22 crew members onboard the vessel were deemed safe.

What happened?

The bulk carrier ‘Golden Ocean’ issued a distress signal southeast of Bontang, Kalimantan near the Makassar Strait. The bulk carrier loaded with coal reportedly caught fire and requested assistance.

Crew rescued

There were 22 crew members onboard the vessel when the incident occurred and all of them were rescued safely. Fortunately, none of the crew members onboard the vessel were injured during the incident.

The fire is reported to have originated from the engine room of the vessel and the superstructure of the vessel was damaged due to the fire.

Investigation initiated

An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the fire and further course of action.
