3 Crew Members of Cargo Ship Laden with Fuel Supplies Detained

On August 22, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained three crew members of a cargo ship laden with fuel supplies at Tanjung Pasir waters.

What happened?

The MMEA personnel intercepted a cargo ship and detained three crew members onboard a cargo ship. The cargo vessel was carrying fuel supplies exceeding permissible quantities.

Exceeded permissible quantities

The District maritime zone operation deputy director Commander Mohd Khairul Anuar Abd Majid confirmed the incident. When authorities carried out inspection of the special permit issued to the cargo ship, it found lapses.

The cargo vessel was allowed to transport 1,200 litres of petrol and 400 litres of diesel but the vessel was transporting 2,800 litres of diesel and 3,400 litres of petrol in the ship.

Crew arrested

The authorities detained the captain of the vessel and two crew members to facilitate investigation under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Also, the vessel has been detained for further investigations
