Casualties: None

In a dramatic incident, 1994 built, 1419 Dwt “Haidar” that was berthed at Porto Vila do Conde in Barcarena, Brazil developed a list and within two hours overturned and sank.  The Lebanon flagged livestock carrier had some 5000 animals onboard when the incident occurred.  The crew onboard the ship was evacuated before the ship capsized.  However, the animals were left stranded on top of the overturned hull.

A Sleiman Co & Sons, a Lebanese Company, owns the ship and is managed by Beirut-based Tamara Shipping.  They operate with a fleet of 6 livestock carriers.

The cause of sinking following a sudden listing is being investigated by the Barcarena Port Authorities.  Two more incidents involving livestock carriers were reported earlier this year.
