550 Pounds of Cocaine Found on Cargo Ship Off Miami

Recently, 550 pounds of cocaine worth $6.25 million was reportedly seized from a cargo vessel by the U.S. Customs, from the Miami Port.

What happened?

The CBP officers during a routine inspection discovered the cocaine in bags, hidden behind metal tubing.

The bags reportedly contained 225 packages containing a white powdery substance that field, which later tested positive for cocaine.

Miami Seaport, Port Director Jorge Roig said, “This is one of most significant seizures in the last few years and the latest result of CBP’s multi-layered, risk-based approach to enhance the security of our borders. CBP plays a critical role in efforts to keep dangerous drugs from reaching local communities across South Florida”.

Investigation launched

An investigation has reportedly been launched into the incident to determine how the drug was smuggled into the vessel. Investigators did not say where the ship originated from, before arriving in South Florida.
