A Night-long Rescue by Edmonton Fire Rescue Team Save 300 People from a Stranded Cruise Ship

  • The rescue operation lasted more than five hours, from around 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., 
  • No injuries were reported and the passengers said that the crew did a commendable job of keeping them calm. 
  • Edmonton Riverboat cancels a cruise on Monday to give its crew members time off.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services removed over 300 people from the Edmonton Riverboat on Saturday after the boat became stuck due to a strong current, the Business Insider reported.

Strong current towards the Ship 

The ship was sailing in the North Saskatchewan River. She was reportedly unable to return to its dock in Alberta due to a current that was moving toward the ship. 

Rescue operation by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services

The rescue operation started around 11:30 p.m by the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. 

According to Sarah Jackson, the Edmonton Fire Rescue spokeswoman, over 300 passengers and employees were saved from the boat. 

The rescue operation ended at around 5:30 a.m. the next morning and no injuries were reported. 

Commendable job by the Cruise crew

A passenger named Laura St. Jean told that she was aware that there was no immediate danger. 

Hayden Wilson, a passenger who was filming an advertisement for Edmonton’s tourism department, added that the ship’s crew members kept the passengers calm.

He added that the crew did a commendable job of establishing there was no real danger. 

‘Time off’ for the Crew members

Edmonton Riverboat affirmed that it was canceling a cruise on Monday to give its crew members time off.

Edmonton Riverboat and the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s requests for comment.
