Ronald “Ronnie” del Carmen is a  multi-awarded animator and illustrator of comics and books.  He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in advertising at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD)  in 1985.

He returned to his alma mater after three decades as a celebrity.  Del Carmen joined Pixar, the world’s pre-eminent animation studio based in Northern California, in 2000.

He served as the story supervisor of “Up” the first animated film to open the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2009.

He is also the co-director of the Pixar film “Inside Out” one of the best films of 2015.

He said, “It’s an amazing experience because I’m not just coming home, there’s a movie I helped make that’s opening here,” he said. “It’s a dream come true.”

Del Carmen, accompanied by his wife, Tess, and daughter Gerin, was received by the vice rector, Fr. Richard Ang at UST’s landmark main building.

Del Carmen, the alumnus, returned to UST as a celebrity mobbed by autograph-seeking students who wanted to be photographed with him.
