Anti-Heeling System Fault Causes Stena Gothica To List

On 6th October 2015 Tuesday, the Passenger/Ro-Ro Cargo Ship Stena Gothica called on the port of Frederikshavn, Denmark with a severe list to port side. A technical error due to the malfunctioning of its anti-heeling mechanism caused the ferry to develop a heavy list as she passed under the Älvsborgs Bridge at around 08:00 hrs.

The vessel proceeded toward Majnabbe Quay and berthed at the Stena Terminal at around 08.45 hrs. She was already loaded with 35 trucks, and there were 39 passengers and 35 crew members onboard. Investigations are on regarding the listing.

Swedish flagged Stena Gothica is a Passenger/Ro-Ro cargo ship built in 1982. Dimensions: 159m length overall and a beam of 20m. Her gross tonnage is 13294 tons. Regular route: 2-trips per day between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn.
