Bulk Carrier Collided with Anchored Freighter at Nakhodka Bay

Bulk carrier HAI YU allided with anchored general cargo vessel ZHI KUN 7 while heaving anchor on Anchorage 2 in Nakhodka Bay, Nakhodka, Japan sea, on April 30.

What happened?

The bulker was maneuvering to secure at the Anchorage No 2 in the bay, but was pushed by the current and adrifted over the anchored vessel Zhi Kun 7, reports say.

Due to the collision, the ship Hai Yu suffered scratches in Hold No 4, while the freighter Zhi Kun 7 received 5-7 cm deep dents with size 1.5 x 2.0 m at the bulwark, but without suffering water ingress.

Seaworthy Report:

The accident was reported to local authorities and both the vessels will be safety inspected before allowed to return in service.

Fortunately, during the accident there were no reported injuries and no water pollution. The investigation for the root cause of the accident is under way. Both the ships were reportedly stable and their seaworthiness was not affected.
