Cargo Ship with 10 Crew Sinks in Black Sea

On October 1, a cargo ship with ten crew members onboard the vessel reportedly sank in the Black Sea.

What happened?

The turkish cargo ship ‘Bilal Bal’ with ten crew members onboard the vessel sank in the Black Sea near the Asian side of Istanbul early morning. The cause of the vessel sinking remains unknown and the vessel was loaded with cast iron when the incident occurred.

SAR operations initiated:

Binali Yildirim, Prime Minister said, “Unfortunately, one of our cargo ships sank in the Black Sea”. 

According to the Coastguard, three boats, one helicopter and a plane have been conducting search and rescue operations to locate the missing crew members. Five boats more were deployed to aid in the operations, as well as a remotely operated underwater vehicle from the Turkish naval forces.
