China Introduces Battery Power Project for River Shipping

  • Eve Energy and Shanghai Hanshun Shipping are to develop battery power for River transport.
  • China has taken considerable precautions to restrict the impact of ship pollution on its mainland. 
  • That 0.5% sulfur cap will be applied to shipping globally from the start of next year.

Ship and Bunker in their website reports that two Chinese firms are to develop battery power for River transport. 

Joint venture between Eve Energy and SHS

This project will be taken up by the Battery manufacturer Eve Energy and shipping start up Shanghai Hanshun Shipping (SHS). 

Eve Energy started up in 2001, and made the list of Shanghai Gem in 2009. Eve Energy focuses primarily on lithium batteries.

Shanghai Hanshun Shipping was formed this year. 

Restrictions on Ship pollution 

China has taken considerable precautions to restrict the impact of ship pollution on its mainland. 

Sulfur cap on bunker fuel

The country’s coastline as well as the Yangtze River delta are already under the 0.5% sulfur cap on bunker fuel. 

That cap will be applied to shipping globally from the start of next year.
