Danfoss Semco to Fire-proof Mercy Ship’s Sailing Hospital

The next Mercy Ship would be double the size and capacity of its first hospital ship.  It would be the world’s largest civilian free healthcare hospital ship.  It will near completion by July 2017.  The company hopes to have the ship fully equipped and staffed for its first field service in 2018.

The ship will have a dedicated hospital space of 7,000 square meters, that will also include classrooms, conference halls and simulator labs for more effective training.  The ship will be equipped to allow for all preoperative and postoperative care to be carried out onboard.

China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation CSIC will construct the ship at their Tianjin Xingang Shipyard 174-metre hospital ship will be designed by the  Deltamarin of Turku, Finland and the 37,000 GRT hospital ship’s project construction will be managed by Stena RoRo.

Danfoss Semco will provide the ship’s high-pressure water mist fire fighting system.  This would provide overall protection to the entire hospital premises, the accommodation quarters as well as the machinery space.

The special hospital infrastructure features of the ship within the 7000 m2 would be:

  • 6 operating rooms,
  • An intensive care unit,
  • Clinical Laboratory,
  • Diagnostic Radiology,
  • Hospital supply,
  • Pharmacy services.

This ship will be a 154 bedded hospital with 109 beds devoted to acute care and 45 self-care beds.
