More Destroyer Collisions! A Tanker and Other Vessel Affected

On October 3, a tanker reportedly collided with a Navy destroyer at Kaohsiung Cijin Harbor. In another incident, another destroyer was involved in a collision with the fishing vessel.

What happened?

The tanker ‘Everrich 3’ collided with a ROC Navy Keelung (Kidd)-class destroyer ‘Tso Ying (DDG-1803)’ while leaving the Kaohsiung Cijin Harbor.

The destroyer was berthed at the pier in Kaohsiung Cijin Harbor when the tanker collided with it with making a turn. The destroyer suffered deep dents and breaches to its bow during the incident. The tanker also suffered damaged during the collision incident.

Destroyer hits fishing vessel:

In another incident, the destroyer ‘Keelung (DDG-1801)’ reportedly collided with fishing vessel ‘Chin Fu En’ that tried to overtake it while returning to Su’ao Port in northeastern Taiwan.

The fishing vessel was entering the Suao harbor when the incident occurred. The fishing vessel suffered damages to its stern.

Fortunately, no one was injured during both incidents. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision. The tanker has been detained for further survey, and an investigation has been launched by the Kaohsiung Maritime Port Bureau.
