Drifting Cargo Ship Evacuated Off Bartın

On November 21, a drifting cargo vessel was reportedly evacuated after the vessel was disabled at Sea and a distress call was raised.

What happened?

The Turkish Coast Guard had reportedly received a distress call in the early morning of November 21 from the vessel ‘Nefterudovoz 29’.

The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to rescue the crew members who were unable to carry out the rescue due to strong winds.

Second aircraft dispatched:

In a second attempt, a helicopter was dispatched by the Coast Guard Command Center in Samsun. The AB-412 helicopter was successful in rescuing the six crew members onboard the vessel and they were rushed to the hospital for medical checkup.

Vessel adrift due to engine failure:

The vessel enroute from Rostov and loaded with 3.000 tons of pig iron, remained adrift due to strong winds one mile off the coast of the Bartın province.

The vessel was successful in unloading the cargo when it docked in Bartin, but suffered an engine failure shortly afterwards and was moored on the anchorage site.
