On January 17, China’s leading finance leasing company, AVIC International Leasing has entered into a contract with Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSIC) to build new bulk carriers, according to Seatrade Maritime News.

New build vessels

The Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. has agreed to build ten 85,000 dwt bulk carriers for AVIC International Leasing. The first batch of orders for DSIC has been received for 85,000 dwt post-Panamax bulk carriers.

The post-Panamax bulk carriers are bigger and offer more economic efficiency when compared to Kamsarmax bulk carrier. It also meets the most updated requirements of NOx and SOx emission regulations. The order will greatly improve DSIC’s competitiveness on building such type of ship.

Bulk cargo transportation

Once the vessel is delivered, it will be chartered to bulk cargo transportation operator, SDTR Marine, incorporated in Singapore. The charter is a joint venture between China’s state-owned Shandong Shipping Corporation and Singapore’s Transcenden Global. The company previously built 10 Kamsarmax bulkers at China’s Jinling Shipyard.
