The European Tour is in Turkey this week for the Turkish Airlines Open, the start of the Race to Dubai — their version of the Fed Ex Cup playoffs.

This year, the Turkish Airlines Open features a unique tee box on top of a villa, and earlier this week some of the stars of the European Tour went out at night to try out “drone golf” from the villa tee box.

Lee Westwood, Danny Willett and Andrew “Beef” Johnston flew drones out through and obstacle course set up over the hole before reaching the green and tried to drop the ball closest to the pin.  Beef and Willett weren’t able to get theirs inside the rings, but the wily veteran Westwood calmly flew his drone right over the pin and dropped it inside the inner-most ring for the victory.

“This is undoubtedly one of the highlights of my career, one of my proudest moments,” Westwood joked after his victory.  “I am really pleased to kick the week off with a win.  It was really tough stepping up to the tee with the winds being so strong and not having used a drone before but with the help of my drone caddy there was no stopping me.  I hope to defend my Turkish Airlines Drone Golf Championship trophy next year.”
