GSI Hosts IMO-GloBallast Workshop In Duluth

CME

In preparation for the implementation of the Ballast water convention, the Great Ship Initiative (GSI) of the Northeast Midwest Institute (NEMWI) hosted a “train- the-trainer” workshop held between 19th and 21st October in Duluth USA.

The NEMWI own a ballast water management system testing facility located on the Great Lakes.  The workshop was attended by 14 participants from various countries to gain hands-on experience in sampling and analysing some potentially invasive species of bugs in ballast water on-board a ship, during the workshop.

Antoine Blonce and Theofanis Karayannis from IMO Headquarters attended the workshop, along with Vassilis Tsigourakos, GloBallast’s regional coordinator for the wider Caribbean region, who is based at the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Information and Training Center for the Wider Caribbean (REMPEITC-Caribe) in Curaçao.
