Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) the container, automotive and bulk shipping giant, has taken delivery of the group’s latest Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), the Kisogawa a 312,000 DWT tanker that was built at the Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering yard in China, the joint venture established in 1999 between Cosco and Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

The new ship features a number of key developments to improve its efficiency, such as a ultra-long stroke slow speed main diesel engine and a highly-efficient large diameter propeller, which together produce a 20% reduction in fuel consumption compared to comparable vessels.

Flagged in Panama and standing almost 390 metres in length in common with most new builds these days the ship also has a top-of-the-line ballast water management system to ensure the ocean habitat is protected from unwanted environmental effects as mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). In a statement the company said:

’K Line is committed to continue providing the most reliable and stable service possible to our valued customers with the highest standard of safety.’
