MOL Crude Oil Tanker Rescues a Castaway

On April 14, a crude oil tanker rescued a castaway which was stranded in the South China Sea.

What happened?

The crude oil tanker ‘Altair Trader’ belonging to TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. managed to successfully rescue a castaway which was stranded in the South China Sea.

The vessel was enroute to the port of Kawasaki, Japan when crew members noticed a light glistening on the surface of the Sea ahead of the starboard. Upon closer inspection, they noticed a castaway.

Castaway rescued

The vessel immediately took a turn and rescued the castaway who was rescued safely. The survivor was handed over to the local authorities off the Nha Trang Port in Vietnam at the instruction of the Vietnamese Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres.

The identity of the castaway and how he ended up at Sea remains unknown.
