New Mega-Shipyard For Russia

The Independent Barents Observer, reports that Russia has begun the construction of the old Zvezda shipyard in Primorsk in the Far East.  On completion of this giant project, Russia will be independent with Super Tankers and other ice-class vessels to operate on the Arctic shelf.

This shipyard will be the largest in the nation with most modern civilian and will aim on large-tonnage vessels.  In another four years, the shipyard will be capable of construction of Arctic capable oil tankers and LNG Carriers.  This will also create the world’s first and most powerful Arctic fleet, informs Head of Russia’s Security Council . Rosneft, Gazprom, Novatek and sovcomflot have signed letters of intent for Vessel orders.

The yard has to be started fresh and will include some renovation facilities located within the development area.  The designing of this yard will be by Shipbuilding and ship repair technology centre with input from the Engineering Consultant of Germany.

The facilities in the yard will be latest production equipment, robotic work cells, machine driven and automated lines, standard jigs and fixtures and IT systems to support the hi-tech production and the use of machines  and automation  to ensure a high quality and commercially successful product.

This project on completion, the Zvezda shipbuilding complex will be able to construct tankers with displacement up to 350 thousand tonnes, LNG carriers up to 250,000 cubic metres, Ice class vessels, specialized vessels with a launch weight about 29,000 tonnes, offshore platforms and other types of ship.
