A pirate attack on the southern Philippines sea was repelled by the ship’s crew by using a mixture of boiling water and oil purpose.

What happened?

Not more than 12 pirates were trying to board the ship, MV Kudos when it was in the waters of the Basilan Sea, in the southern Philippines Sea. But the quick wit of the crew members saved them from the attack. The 27 sailors that were onboard stopped the armed men by splashing a concoction of hot water and oil.

Crew Members Injured

The pirates fired guns in retaliation, leaving 2 crew members injured. Coast Guard Western Mindanao Command Chief Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez Jr said two crew members sustained minor injuries in the attack.

Praising the courage of the sailors, he said, “We were pleased that the crew did not lose their presence of mind.Their raw courage enabled them to pour hot water to the pirates who were already attempting to climb the vessel.”

Ship escorted to safety

The ship was carrying steel from Manila to the southern Davao port when it was attacked. Coast Guard and Navy vessels rushed to the scene after receiving a distress signal, and escorted the ship to safety.
