On June 16, a bulk carrier crew suffered a heart attack and needed immediate help, the Indian Coast Guard evacuated the seafarer to a hospital in Mangaluru.

Indian Coast Guard ship Rajdoot, patrolling in the area, carried out successful evacuation of Mongan Ryan Frugalidad, 33-year-old Filipino crew from Motor Vessel Eagle Strait off Mangalore.  The merchant vessel was escorted to New Mangalore Port anchorage.  With the help of a tug, the patient was evacuated at 12.25 a.m. on Thursday.

The 186-metre-long bulk carrier was in transit from Kwangyang, South Korea, to Mundra Port (Gujarat).  The rough sea conditions made the evacuation task little difficult.

The timely assistance to the sailor helped save his life and his condition is reported to be stable.

Deputy Inspector-General and commander, Coast Guard Karnataka K R Suresh requested all agencies to be available 24 X 7 during monsoon period for providing timely maritime search and rescue assistance since the time is critical and of essence in saving lives at sea.  The Coast Guard will do its bit in these adverse conditions, he assured.
