Shipping line inaugurated

Iran and India launched a shipping lane that connects India’s Mumbai to the Iranian southern port cities of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas.

India has formally established shipping between India’s port and the strategic Iranian port. The first Indian cargo entered Chabahar’s Shahid Beheshti Port on Sunday. This was announced by Behrouz Aqaee, a senior shipping official in the Sistan and Baluchistan province.

Strategic ports to facilitate trade

From now on, Aqaee said, regular ships from 3 Indian ports –Mumbai, Kandla and Mundra will now regularly go to the Iranian port every 2 weeks.

Late 2018, India took over operations at the port, undertaking to develop the second phase of the project. The first phase of the strategic port, located on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, was inaugurated late 2017.

The port is to play a big role in facilitating trade between regional states, particularly the land-locked Central Asian countries.
