Ship’s Captain Found Drunk Four Times Over Limit

2007

A sea captain who was reportedly found drunk at sea and on duty has been fined £1,000.

What happened?

The 38 year old captain, Patryk Tetzlaff was found drunk four times over the limit while piloting the vessel and carrying out refuelling duties.

The captain was detained by the officials at the Belfast port. A test was carried out where he had found to be drunk and the captain subsequently admitted to have drunk half a bottle of vodka.

Fined and to be repatriated:

The captain was charged with being drunk on duty. The Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard Harbour Police were called because of Tetzlaff’s state.

A defence solicitor argued that the captain was not drinking during manoeuvres.

The drunk captain was expected to be repatriated to his native Poland where he will face further sanctions.

His lawyer said, “There are repercussions with his employment – the regulatory body can take action with regard to his licence”.

Furthermore, the captain was imposed a £1,000 fine and if he fails to pay then he would have to serve a jail sentence.
