The bad weather in the Marmara Sea caused grounding of two freighters off Turkey.  The general cargo ship Guneyin dragged anchor and was washed by the strong winds ashore, grounding at Kartal Kumcular Iskelesi in Turkey.

What happened?

The vessel stuck at the rocks on the coast north of Tuzla, but fortunately did not suffer serious damages and was not breached.  Meanwhile, the general cargo vessel Yakup Aaga also dragged anchor and was washed ashore over the already grounded freighter Guneyin. The both ships stuck at the same place and collided by boards, but fortunately were not damaged and remained stable at the beach.

The accident was reported to the local authorities and salvage tugs were dispatched to the scene of the troubled freighters.  The tugs assisted with re-floating and securing the cargo ship Guneyin at the anchorage, while the freighter Yakup Aaga was towed to Kartal.  The ships will be detained for safety inspection and survey before the return in service.

Fortunately, during the both accidents, there were no injured people and no reported pollution.
