A container ship that was reportedly stranded on a reef off New Caledonia for several month has reportedly split in half.

What happened?

In July, the container ship ‘Kea Trader’ ran aground due to mysterious circumstances and was struck on Durand reef off New Caledonia for several months. The vessel was enroute from Papeete to Noumea when the incident occurred.

Splits in half:

Recently, the vessel reportedly broke into half and the vessel was evacuated before it broke up.

The Kea Trader ran aground in, as yet, unexplained circumstances on the Durand Reef near. The nearly new Maltese-flagged vessel was emptied of its fuel in subsequent weeks.

The cargo was then offloaded in a lengthy and costly operation in the hope of refloating the nearly 200 metre long ship.

However, this attempt had failed a month ago and it was announced that the ship would be scrapped.
