On September 24, a tanker barge was reportedly involved in collision with a container barge on the Waal near Weurt.

What happened?

The Dutch flagged container barge “Oriana“ was involved in a collision with the tanker barge ‘Tinaco’. The tanker barge was reported sailing downstream and left East Canal located at Nijmegen when it collided with the container barge heading from Nijmegen and was proceeding towards Neuss.

Vessels damaged:

Both the vessels suffered damages due to the impact of the collision. Large areas of the hull of the “Tinaco” were torn up at starboard side when the larger ship hit. Luckily, the vessel was unloaded, otherwise a large-scale oil spill would have been the consequence.

The ship is currently berthed in the west port at Nijmegen after the accident. The vessel “Oriana” which suffered less damage continued to proceed towards Neuss, before heading to Rotterdam.
