100-year-old Pearl Harbor Survivor Honored at Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony

On December 5, World War II Veterans were honored at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.  They also paid respects to a 100 year old Pearl Harbor survivor.

They recognized Glover Manning Jr., not only is he 100 years old, he’s also a survivor of Pearl Harbor.  WWII veteran, Pearl Harbor survivor who served in the Pacific.

“This is wonderful I never thought I’d be upgraded like this,” said Glover Manning Jr.

The Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony honored Manning for his service.

“Daddy how old were when you went in the navy? 19.  19 years old, why did you go into the navy? I couldn’t get a job,” said his oldest son and retired marine Harry Manning.  Who is also a survivor as he was just 2 years old and at Pearl Harbor when the attacks happened.

“Our next door neighbor warned her about what was happening my father was on duty he was aboard his ship of course they weren’t going to let him leave with bombs falling around,” said Manning.

Manning Jr. was on the USS Rigel, a repair ship when the bombing happened.  That ship was damaged in the attacks.

Buddy Carter presented him a proclamation which he entered in Manning’s name into the Congressional Record.

“If you’re a young man and you want to serve the country join the navy join the navy,” said Manning Jr.

They also showed their gratitude for all of the World War II Veterans in the building including a man who spent 13 months in a POW camp.

The ceremony was complete with a flower wreath presentation, a 2 bell ceremony, and a 21 gun salute.

The actual 75th Anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor is this Wednesday (December 7th).
