Six people injured in a recent cruise ship crash are from Abbeville, reports KATC.com.

What happened?

Two Carnival ships collided in December in the port of Cozumel, Mexico. According to a report in the Crowley Post-Signal , the Rupert family was eating breakfast on the Carnival Glory when their table started shaking.

What did they see?

That’s when they saw another ship coming closer and ran to the other side of the room. They say an iron beam smashed down onto their table and they were hit by debris. The family only received minor cuts and bruises from flying debris.

The family, Michelle and Raymond Rupert and their children, were on a cruise to celebrate Michelle’s 50th birthday. Carnival game them a half-off discount.

No cruise plan soon!

Despite the discount given, the family says they don’t plan on boarding another cruise anytime soon. Michelle said, “it will be awhile.”

Authorities believe the crash was caused by strong winds and currents.
