1939

Mega container ship collides with cranes and a berthed containership, reports Mikhail Voytenko for FleetMon.

What happened?

Container ship MILANO BRIDGE in the afternoon Apr 6, while proceeding to berth 7 at Busan New Port container terminal with pilot on board, allided with an STS gantry crane.

The crane collapsed, dropping its boom onto the Milano Bridge’s stern.

She then contacted a berthed container ship and also pushed four other cranes off their tracks.

Damage and injury

The collapsed crane’s driver injured his ankle while attempting to escape the accident and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Vessel yet to be moored

MILANO BRIDGE as of 1100 UTC wasn’t yet moored, probably because of crane debris on her stern.
