On March 27, a worker was unfortunately crushed to death and the authorities are investigating the incident.
What happened?
The worker was crushed to death after something fell on top of him when he was present in the cargo hold of the vessel ‘Grebe Bulker’.
Body sent for examination
The accident occurred when the vessel was cruising through the Houston shipping vessel. The body of the worker was extracted when it arrived at the port and sent to the medical examiner for further investigation.
Victim identified
The victim was identified as ILA local member Francisco Montoya. The vessel was involved in unloading operations at the city dock 20. The ship’s crane was unloading steel pipes when it fell on the worker and he was crushed to death.
An investigation has been initiated to determine how the incident occurred and whether necessary safety precautions were followed.
