[Watch] Tanker Breached, Major Oil Spill in Rotterdam

On June 24, a breached tanker was a major source of oil spill when it leaked 200 tons of fuel oil into the Sea.

What happened?

The tanker ‘Bow Jubail’ collided with pier at LBC Oil Terminal, Botlek, Rotterdam during the process of docking.

The Tanker suffered from a breached hull in cargo tanks area and around 900 tons of fuel oil was reported to have leaked into the harbor.

Cleanup operation launched

Shortly after the spill, anti-pollution operation was launched, preventing oil spread and cleansing the polluted waters.

According to latest official statements, some 200 tons of fuel oil leaked.

Residents complain

Currently, complaints are pouring in from locals on strong smell, people who are suffering from nausea, headache or dizziness, are advised to call doctor. Nearby beaches announced to be not safe, for the time being and cleaning operation is underway.
