On September 16th, 2015, Singapore flagged box ship Maersk Newcastle was performing a manoeuvring operation at the Strom Quay in Bremerhaven.  The fairlead on its main deck broke off dislodging the deck railings and also left the deck with a hole in it.  The ship was being led by a tow tug when the accident occurred.

The broken parts were recovered, and the Maritime safety authorities detained the vessel at the NTB North Sea Terminal for repairs.  Investigations by the Water Police of Bremen is on to find the cause.  The vessel, started from Hamburg, was enroute to St. Petersburg when this occurred.

After repairs, the vessel left Bremerhaven on September 17th.
