A cargo ship caught fire at 5.20 am yesterday, in its accommodation block, off the coast of Cromer.
The vessel carrying wheat to Rotterdam relayed a mayday message immediately and two Coastguard helicopters, a lifeboat and two other vessels came to the rescue of the ship. The seven crew of the ship are still on board and trying to keep the fire under control.
The accommodation area was heavily smoke damaged. It’s thought the vessel will head to the port of Great Yarmouth under its own power.
There are no reports that anyone has been injured and so far the vessel has not been evacuated.
