International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) has prescribed a list of requirements with regard to the prevention of pollution from ships. To comply with IMO’s regulations, ‘The World’, the largest, private, residential ship on the seas will be retrofitted with a Wärtsilä Advanced Wastewater treatment system and a Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum system for navigation and external communication purposes. This ship has been owned by its residents and is managed by ROW Management Ltd based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. According to a contract signed by ROW Management Ltd with Wärtsilä in November 2015, the equipment will be delivered in April, 2016.
In order to facilitate the management and treatment of both ‘grey’ and ‘black’ wasterwater Wärtsilä Hamworthy Membrane BioReactor (MBR) solutions is designed accordingly. Besides it will also monitor the discharges to the sea. It is capable of treating the black and grey water efficiently so that the effluent can meet the most stringent marine discharge standards all over the world. It also includes the latest nutrients removal requirements in the Baltic Sea.
