An investigation has been launched on the stricken cargo ship Modern Express for the controversy of its cargo on board the ship.
According to the reports, the cargo ship – Modern Express carrying 3,600 tonnes of timber and digging machines, was listing at an angle of between 40 and 50 degrees. The maritime experts believed that the tow line could be attached only when the weather conditions improve. Fortunately, tow line was attached on 1st February, else the vessel would have ran aground causing an environmental disaster.
Now, another side story from the incident has raised. The cargo onboard the vessel is not timber and those are logs prohibited from export from the West African nation. Hence, Gabon’s Ministry of Economy has launched an investigation.
