Transnational Threats Motivate Training In Cyber Defence

To help information security professionals stay one step ahead of cybercriminals, SANS Institute is increasing the supply of new security training courses, as reported by The Register.

Smart organisations 

According to the SANS Institute’s recently released SANS 2022 Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) Study, smart organisations must “rapidly gather situational awareness, contextualise enormous volumes of shared information, and prioritise remediation of important risks.”

Thankfully, it is clear that spending on cyber defence is rising. According to the insurance company Hiscox’s Cyber Readiness Report 2022, the average global spending on cyber security for organisations that responded to the research report has climbed by 250% from 2019 to $5.3 million. Also, a portion of this increase in funding has gone towards better training infosec personnel in cyber defence.

SANS is constantly creating new courses that identify and analyse big online assaults and give the newest tools, methods, and technologies to keep organisations secure in order to assist satisfy this need.

Cyber Defence. The SEC673: Advanced Information Security Automation with Python course provides advanced techniques for automating information security with Python, and is aimed at those who are already familiar with basic Python programming concepts.

DFIR. The FOR528: Ransomware for Incident Responders course provides the hands-on training required for those who may need to respond to ransomware incidents. It looks at Human-Operated Ransomware along with the evolution of Ransomware-as-a-Service.

Pen Testing and Red Teaming. The SEC556: IoT Penetration Testing course focuses on the IoT ecosystem, helping you build skills to identify, assess, and exploit basic and complex security mechanisms in IoT devices.

Industrial Control Systems. The ICS418: ICS Security Essentials for Managers course is aimed at leaders responsible for securing critical infrastructure and operational technology environments.

OSINT. The SEC497: Practical Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) course aims to provide practical, real-world tools and techniques to help individuals perform OSINT research safely and effectively.

Cloud. The SEC541: Cloud Security Attacker Techniques, Monitoring, and Threat Detection course focus on how securely operating cloud infrastructure requires new tools and approaches.

Management. The MGT553: Cyber Incident Management course is designed to help infosec professionals effectively manage major cyber incidents. It focuses on the non-technical challenges facing leaders in times of extreme pressure, helping them to maximise their effectiveness.

It is clear that, in this never-ending conflict against ever-evolving adversaries, the delivery of up-to-date cyber defence training – from non-technical employees to IT security staff, all the way up to organisations’ security leadership teams – is a critically important weapon.
