  • Seaspan Energy launched their third 7,600 cubic meter LNG bunkering vessel, Seaspan Baker. It joins Seaspan Lions in servicing the West Coast of North America with LNG fuel.
  • The first two vessels, Seaspan Garibaldi and Seaspan Lions, will be delivered this year while Seaspan Baker arrives in 2025. These eco-friendly vessels are designed for minimal emissions and underwater noise.

The 7,600 cubic meter Seaspan Baker is the final vessel in a series of three, all named after famous West Coast mountains. The first two vessels, Seaspan Garibaldi (Nch’ḵay̓) and Seaspan Lions (Ch’ich’iyúy Elxwíkn), are scheduled for delivery later this year. Seaspan Baker will follow suit in 2025.

Targeted Operations and Global Ambitions

  • Seaspan Baker: Primarily focused on servicing the Long Beach container ship market, it will collaborate with Seaspan Lions to provide LNG fueling services for vessels on the West Coast of North America.
  • Seaspan Garibaldi: Destined for the global market, it will deliver low-carbon solutions with its Panama region base.

Technical Specifications and Green Design

These LNG bunkering vessels share the following specifications:

  • Length: 112.8 meters
  • Width: 18.6 meters
  • Draft: 5 meters
  • Design Speed: 13 knots

CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE), a world leader in small-scale gas carrier construction, is responsible for building the vessels.

Seaspan collaborated with VARD Marine Inc. on the design, incorporating cutting-edge technologies to achieve:

  • Reduced emissions
  • Lower underwater noise

The design prioritizes safe, efficient, and economical refueling for various ship types. It allows for transfers from and to a wide range of terminals, facilitating ship-to-ship LNG transfers and coastal/short-sea shipping cargo operations.

Seaspan’s Commitment to Sustainability

The launch of the Seaspan Baker underscores Seaspan Energy’s dedication to providing eco-friendly bunkering solutions that support the maritime industry’s transition towards a cleaner future.
