Deltamarin reports that it has signed a new contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard to design and engineer the 14th and 15th vessels in Stena RoRo’s E-Flexer series. These multi-fuel vessels are methanol-ready and are designed to be highly sustainable, showcasing the maritime industry’s shift toward greener solutions.
Contract Details and Vessel Features
The contract covers the complete basic and detailed design of the two new E-Flexer RoPax vessels, which are equipped with multi-fuel engines that can run on traditional marine fuels, biodiesel, and are prepared for methanol use.
They are also designed with a battery propulsion option, ensuring future-proof technology that meets strict environmental standards. These vessels will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 60% compared to older vessels.
Operational Plan and Environmental Impact
The vessels are intended for use by Attica Group on Adriatic routes, with delivery expected in April and August 2027. An option for two more vessels is included in the deal.
These ships will play a key role in reducing Attica Group’s emissions while boosting fuel efficiency.

Stena RoRo’s CEO Per Westling stressed the innovation behind the vessels, noting their flexibility and future-proof design, “With Attica and Deltamarin, we have developed the most bespoke E-Flexer concept so far, and this design is a new landmark for highly efficient, cost-effective, and future-proof RoPax vessels. With the capability of using both conventional fuel, biodiesel, bio- and e-Methanol, as well as batteries for propulsion, the shipowner has a vessel that can be operated with zero CO2 emissions in the future.”
