On October 13, a fire broke out on two ships carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) near Kutubdia Point in the Bay of Bengal, Cox’s Bazar, reports Safety4sea.

According to international news sources, the blaze started on the 32-year-old mother vessel, while LPG was being transferred to the smaller, 27-year-old lighter vessel. The fire, which began on the mother vessel, eventually spread more severely to the smaller vessel.

All 18 crew members, including port security personnel, jumped into the sea to escape the fire and were safely rescued by a tugboat.

The fire caused significant damage to the smaller vessel, while the larger vessel managed to contain the fire with its own resources, avoiding substantial damage.
