Newly Opened Hongqi Bridge Collapses After Landslides in Sichuan Province

A recently inaugurated bridge in China’s southwestern Sichuan province has partially collapsed following a series of landslides on Tuesday afternoon, releasing a massive cloud of dust across the area.

Authorities confirmed that the 758-meter-long (2,486-foot) Hongqi Bridge had been closed a day earlier after cracks were detected on nearby slopes and roads, signaling potential structural risks. Despite precautionary measures, worsening ground conditions on the mountainside ultimately led to the bridge’s partial collapse.

Officials reported no casualties in the incident.

The Hongqi Bridge, constructed by Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, had only been completed earlier this year, according to a post from the company on social media.
