China’s Beibu Gulf Port Receives 200,000-Tonne Class Container Ship, Boosting Hub Capacity

The Beibu Gulf Port in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region marked a significant milestone with the arrival of its largest-ever container vessel—a 200,000-tonne class ship measuring 399.8 metres in length—at the fully automated terminal of the Qinzhou Port cluster.

The vessel began loading and unloading immediately after berthing, reflecting the terminal’s readiness to handle ultra-large container ships. The Beibu Gulf Port cluster, which encompasses Qinzhou, Beihai and Fangchenggang, is actively increasing its capacity—Qinzhou Port alone added six new open berths in the past year to support expanding international shipping operations.

Between January and September 2025 the port handled 874,000 TEUs in foreign-trade container throughput, a year-on-year increase of 28.4%.
