K Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has strengthened its position in the global tanker market with new contracts worth ₩460 billion. The company announced that it has signed agreements with two European shipowners for the construction of three 115,000-ton crude oil carriers (including one optional vessel) and two 50,000-ton petrochemical product carriers. All vessels have been designed to meet the latest environmental standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
New Eco-Friendly Tanker Orders Highlight Technical Strength
The newly ordered ships comply with IMO’s Phase 3 Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standards, which require significantly lower carbon emissions. To achieve this, K Shipbuilding has introduced a newly optimized hull form that enhances propulsion efficiency by approximately 2.4% compared to conventional designs.
A company representative noted that this achievement reflects the global recognition of K Shipbuilding’s long-standing expertise and competitiveness in the mid-size tanker sector. The company plans to continue investing in technology upgrades and quality improvements to maintain its leadership in this segment.
Strong Orderbook Supports Continued Growth
K Shipbuilding has reported solid financial performance, with cumulative sales of ₩899.7 billion and an operating profit of ₩84.7 billion as of the third quarter of this year. With the latest contracts included, the company has secured orders for 15 ships (including one option) worth around ₩1.2 trillion in 2025. This ensures nearly two years of stable workload, reinforcing long-term business visibility and operational stability.
