The partnership between Marlow Navigation and Green Marine is a strategic collaboration focused on crew training and technical consulting to support the maritime industry’s transition to alternative, low-flashpoint marine fuels like methanol.
Key Goals and Areas of Cooperation
The partnership builds on two years of successful cooperation that resulted in Marlow Navigation becoming a fully accredited provider of IGF Code (STCW) courses in the Philippines.
- Global Training and Qualification
- Expanded Curriculum: Green Marine, the industry leader in the methanol-as-marine fuel chain, will advise and assist Marlow in developing training for the design, processes, procedures, and safe handling of engines using Methanol, and eventually LNG, Ethanol, and Ammonia.
- Global Delivery: Marlow will offer face-to-face and simulator training on alternative fuels in the Philippines and soon in Europe. Training will also be available globally through blended learning courses with live online classrooms, leveraging Green Marine’s resources in the Far East (Singapore, China).
- Customized Solutions: The partnership is explicitly intended to move beyond the “one size fits all approach,” providing crews with training that is specifically tailored to the vessel, engine, and alternative fuel they will be operating.
- Technical Consulting and Expertise
- Low Flash Point Fuels: Green Marine provides access to its engineering background and expert knowledge gained from consulting on the majority of new and retrofit alternative fuel projects globally.
- Supporting Owners: Green Marine will support and assist Marlow by advising and consulting ship owners and managers on the implementation process of various alternative fuels.
Strategic Importance
The partnership is vital for both companies and the wider industry in addressing the challenges of decarbonization:
- For Marlow Navigation: It provides access to cutting-edge expertise on alternative fuels, enhancing their ability to offer customized solutions to ship owners and strengthen the qualifications of their large crew pool.
- For Green Marine: It allows them to expand their global network of maritime professionals, applying over a decade of direct experience in low-flashpoint fuels to a new generation of seafarers to accelerate safe adoption and strengthen operational readiness.
- For the Industry: The collaboration directly addresses the challenge of bridging the knowledge gap between conventional operations and the future of clean-fuel shipping, which is crucial given the uncertainty about which alternative fuel will ultimately dominate the future market.
