The Cosco’s general cargo ship Da Zhi collided with container gantry crane, while berthing at Abidjan port in Ivory Coast on May 18.
What happened?
The accident triggered the crane to collapse onto the dock and resulted in total loss of the equipment, as well as several containers, reported Blue Ocean and Abidjan Port Authority. The crane fell backwards and collapsed onto several containers, not damaging the vessel.
No injuries reported:
Fortunately during the accident there were no reported injuries and casualties, but the terminal equipment on Berth 21 at Abidjan port was seriously damaged. The general cargo ship Da Zhi was detained at the port for further inspection and investigation.
The container terminal of Abidjan Port has a complement of four container gantry cranes. As a result of the accident, we now assume that three are left available for use.
