On November 27, a ferry plying in New York city was involved in an accident when it reportedly got stuck in a sandbar.

What happened?

The ferry ‘Zelinsky’ became stuck on a sandbar about 100 feet from Manhattan’s Pier 11, off of Wall Street.

The captain of the vessel Michael Sabatino was initially suspected of causing the accident under the influence of alcohol.

Investigation underway:

The Coast Guard investigators are investigating whether the captain and his crew members followed proper protocols and are also checking if the ferry maps and nautical charts are up to date.

The ferry is currently docked at Pier 15 and divers were dispatched into the East River to inspect the ferry and found two small breaches in the hull but six gas-powered pumps kept the vessel from flooding.
