Will The Polar Ship Be Named As Boaty McBoatface?

The Natural Environment Research Council has planned to name its ship in a competition.  James Hand, a former BBC Radio Jersey presenter, suggested the name Boaty McBoatface, which eventually got overwhelming votes on the internet.  He later said to have apologised to the NERC experts for putting such a name forward.

Julia Maddock, acting associate director of communications and engagement at the NERC, responded to Mr Hand’s apology on Twitter, saying her organisation was “loving it”.

In another tweet, she wrote: “We wanted people to talk about our ship and get involved.  We are delighted!”

Its expected that experts may override the name choice for the multi million dollar polar ship with a more apt name of their own.
