Bulk Carrier Scrap Cargo Fire

Fire erupted in the cargo hold of a bulk carrier, moored at mooring buoys at Waakhaven, Rotterdam, on July 4, reports Maritime Bulletin. 

What happened?

According to reports, fire erupted in the cargo hold of bulk carrier DIMITRIS S. The bulk carrier that arrived from Dordrecht was moored at mooring buoys at Waakhaven, Rotterdam, in the afternoon Jul 4. 

One crew was hospitalized after smoke inhalation. The cargo of scrap was reported to have self ignited.

There was a lot of hazardous smoke until firefighters closed the holds. 

Fire extinguished

Fire was extinguished in the morning Jul 5. Firefighters left the ship at around 0300 UTC, extent of damages yet unknown.
