On August 9, a bunkering tanker “Corina” caught fire in its engine room at berth of Nijverheid in IJssel, Netherlands.  The SBB  fire fighting team reportedly brought  the situation under control within an hour.

The fire broke out on the vessel’s engine room due to a short circuit in its diesel generator and engulfed the entire compartment, reports say.  Marine Firefighting Team (SBB) put off the fire with a single truck and  ventilated the engine room with a high pressure ventilator. The seaport police launched an investigation to find the root cause of the issue.

  • No damage to people or environment reported.
  • The tanks and fuel system were not affected, which prevented from more serious accident.
  • A complete inspection has been ordered to ensure the ship is safe enough to continue on its journey.
