Cargo Ship Engine Room Blast Injures Crew

On August 22, there was a reported engine room explosion aboard a product tanker WEICHSELSTERN, which was anchored on Neue Weser Anchorage, north of Wilhelmshaven, North sea.  Second and Third engineers reportedly sustained injuries while starting up composite boiler on chemical tanker.

A helicopter was deployed to transfer the injured seafarers to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

After the explosion, the fire which started on the composite boiler did not expand and was extinguished locally.

Weichselstern reportedly anchored off north Germany.  The company is working on a full investigation.
