Collision on the Rhine

On December 11, a tanker barge, cargo vessel and an another barge were reportedly involved in a collision on the Rhine river.

What happened?

The tank barge ‘Enjoy’ was reportedly damaged after it collided with a barge that was docked at the port situated on the Rhine near Weißenthurm.

The accident occurred when the tanker barge was about to dock near the berthed barge to load vehicle overboard. Incidentally when cargo vessel ‘Viktoria Jaegers’ which was enroute from Rotterdam to Karlsruhe passed the site but reportedly the mooring line of the tanker barge broke away and it started drifting towards the fairway when it hit another barge.

Three vessels damaged:

During the collision, all the three vessels suffered damages and the tank barge suffered dents to its port side bow and was detained for further inspection. She is currently berthed at the BASF port in Mannheim and the vessel ‘Viktoria Jaegers’ is currently berthed at the mineral oil refinery in Karlsruhe.
